Relga Torres, whose name means Rule Towers in English, not that different from the way she sometimes towerinfgly ruled some games. is a top Cuban player of volleyball. She is admired for her play and her beauty and elegance, and has been coveted as a model in traditional Festivales of the Habano made every year in City of Havana and where personalities of many countries of the world meet. She was integral to the winning feminine volleyball gold medal teams in the Olympic games of Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. In addition she participated in the obtaining of 2 championships of the world and four glasses of the universe. She was selected as the most outstanding player of the Century XX by the Federation (FIVB). She began to practice single volleyball with 8 years by recommendation of her mother. As of her exceptional physical characteristics from 14 she was participating in the National Scholastic Games for all Cuba. She stood out in a area where all their members were good players, and where people looked up to the player Mireya Luis the top Cuban player of the 1980s, who was much shorter. She also played for the Cuban side Ciudad Habana. A team that puts allot of players into the Cuban team today.
Somebody said that in 1990 she was still raw and not that good, and in the junior side, but by the mid 1990s she was a great player. She became the youngest player to 1992 that year to win a Olympic Gold when she played in the Cuban team, she was by now a good enough player to replace good players. By 1994 she was the established star, she became and a star player. She was celebrated by the FIVB for her looks, but then in 1996 was less so, as she almost got into fights with opposing team individuals. She started looking for a new career after 2002 and injury, but played every so often.
In 2004 she was overwhelmed as a statue was built to her in Switzerland commemorating her award as player of the century. She was delighted with this.
