routeplanner or route planner is something I have used myself, you go on the internet or use a CD, and type in the places you are leaviong from and place you are goping to and the planner can woprk a quickest route according to its calculations, it may nopt suit your driving, or speed, or way of driving, but you can look at other routesm, and maybe calculate what time you think you would take,. maybe you drive slower or faster. Or hate motorways, or single lane roads, or know of tractors slowing that place down. Route planner is a tool for finding optimal routes (usually for traveling by car) from one place to another. They can typically provide a list of places one will pass by, with crossroads & directions that must be followed, road numbers, distances, etc. They also usually provide an interactive map with a suggested route marked on it. There are several internet services that perform this task, such as RAC Route planner, ViaMichelin, MSN Maps & Directions, Mapquest. A journey planner is a specialised electronic search engine used to find the best journey between two points by some means of transport. Journey planners have been widely used in the travel industry since the 1970s by booking agents accessed through a user interface on a computer terminal, and to support call centre agents providing public transport information. With the advent of the internet, self-service browser based on-line journey planner interfaces for use by the general public have become widely available. A journey planner may be used in conjunction with ticketing and reservation systems, or just to provide schedule information.
