Sandra Elaine Allen is an American best known as the tallest living woman in the world at 7' 7¼ inches. She holds this title though it has been widely reported that Yao Defen of China is actually 5 centimetres taller. She has written a book named Cast A Giant Shadow, and has appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records since 1976. Her height is due to a tumor in her pituitary gland that caused it to release growth hormone uncontrollably. At age 22, she underwent surgery for the condition. Without this she would have continued to grow and suffer further medical problems associated with gigantism. She has appeared in the Academy Award winning Italian film Il Casanova di Federico Fellini, a TV movie called Side Show and in a Canadian/American documentary film called Being Different. The New Zealand band Split Enz immortalized her in a song, "Hello Sandy Allen," released on their 1982 album Time and Tide. She currently lives in Shelbyville, Indiana. She has toured the world, doing interviews, tv programmes and more, infact organising a thing called it's ok to be different.

By the age of 10 she stood 1.905 m (6 ft 3 in) tall, & was 2.16 m (7 ft 1 in) by 16 years old. Sandy had a dream to break free of a world, that she felt she had outgrown. In her first letter to Guinness World Records in 1974 she wrote, "I would like to get to know someone that is approximately my height. It is needless to say my social life is practically nil & perhaps the publicity from your book may brighten my life." The accolade did help to bring about a reversal of fortunes for the Indiana secretary. First, there was an offer from film director Federico Fellini to take a role in his film Casanova in 1975, & then her first date with a 7-ft Illinois man. On July 14, 1977, she went into hospital for a pituitary gland operation to stop further growth. There were many pictures taken of her patting men on the head, just imagineit she was strong enough to lift most in the 1970s, and she used to pat men on the head some 6 foot 4, and some shorter. I saw a pic of her holding a normal height man in the head for fun, he looked absolutely in her control, it wopuld have been great fun to be around a giantess like her when she was at her peak. She wore fun clothes at times, and dresses.
When young Allen graduated she got a state job, where her desk had to be lifted on cement blocks so her legs could fit under
