Shay Doron born in Ramat Hasharon, Israel, April 1, 1985, was a shooting guard for the Maryland women's basketball team. She was Brenda Frese's first big time recruit & played a pivotal role in the resurgence of the program. With her help the team made four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including Maryland's first ever national title in 2006 with a victory over Duke.
Shay holds several school records & ranks in Maryland's top 10 in field goal attempts, assists, steals, three pointers & three pointer attempts. She has also started & played in more games than any other player in school history with 134 appearances & 119 starts.
Doron was named to the All-ACC third team in 2004, the All-ACC first team in 2005, & to the All-ACC second team & ACC All-Academic team in 2006. She was also named to the U.S. National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
Doron spent her childhood in Israel, then moved to New York, where she was an acclaimed basketball player for Christ The King Regional High School. She now claims both Ramat Hasharon, Israel & Great Neck, New York as her hometowns. During the summer of 2005, she played for Israel's under-20 women's national team, which won the Division B European Championship.
The University of Maryland lists Doron as 5'9" tall. She is majoring in criminal justice & criminology.
