Travel to Los Vegas or Las Vegas is something many people
do. los Vegas or las vegas (Spanish: The Meadows) is the most populous city in
the U.S. state of Nevada, the seat of Clark County, & an internationally renowned
major resort city for gambling, shopping, & entertainment. los Vegas, billed
as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of casino
resorts & associated entertainment. A growing retirement & family city,
it is the 28th most populous city in the United States with an estimated population
by the U.S. Census Bureau of 599,087 as of 2008. The estimated population of the
los Vegas metropolitan area, which is the entirety of Clark County, was 1,986,146.
Established in 1905, los Vegas officially became a city in 1911. With the growth
that followed, at the close of the century los Vegas was the most populous American
city founded in the 20th century (a distinction held by Chicago in the 19th century).
The city's tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title
of Sin City, & this image has made los Vegas a popular setting for films &
television programs. Outdoor lighting displays are everywhere on the los Vegas
Strip & are seen elsewhere in the city as well. As seen from space, the los
Vegas metropolitan area is the brightest on Earth City Ride Bus Service is provided
by the Transportation Services Division. This limited service offers two routes
in the downtown area with fare running from free to $0.50 depending on age &
disabilities. Citizens Area Transit (CAT Bus) is a private company providing public
transportation among locals & tourists covering Las Vegas, Henderson, North
las vegas or los vegas & other suburban areas of the valley. Intercity bus
service to las vegas or los vegas is provided by traditional intercity bus carriers,
including Greyhound; many charter services, including Green Tortoise; & several
Chinatown bus lines. Amtrak California also operates Deluxe Express Thruway Motorcoach
dedicated service between the City & its nearest passenger rail station in
Barstow, California. With the exceptions of las vegas or los vegas Boulevard,
Boulder Highway (SR 582), & Rancho Drive (SR 599), the majority of surface
streets in las vegas or los vegas are laid out in a grid along Public Land Survey
System section lines. Many are maintained by the Nevada Department of Transportation
as state highways. The street numbering system is divided by the following streets:
* Westcliff Drive, US 95 Expressway, Fremont Street & Charleston Boulevard
divide the north-south block numbers from west to east.

vegas Boulevard divides the east-west streets from the las vegas or los vegas
Strip to near the Stratosphere, then Main Street becomes the dividing line from
the Stratosphere to the North las vegas or los vegas border, after which the Goldfield
Street alignment officially divides east & west.
* On the east side of
Las Vegas, block numbers between Charleston Boulevard & Washington Avenue
are different along Nellis Boulevard, which is the eastern border of the city
limits.
* All city street signs begin with a N, S, W, or E designation. Interstates
15, 515, & US 95 lead out of the city in all four directions. Two major freeways
- Interstate 15 & Interstate 515/U.S. Route 95 - cross in downtown Las Vegas.
I-15 connects las vegas or los vegas to Los Angeles, California & heads northeast
to & beyond Salt Lake City, Utah. I-515 goes southeast to Henderson, beyond
which US 93 continues over the Hoover Dam towards Phoenix, Arizona. US 95 connects
the city to northwestern Nevada, including Carson City & Reno. US 93 splits
from I-15 northeast of las vegas or los vegas & goes north through the eastern
part of the state, serving Ely & Wells, & US 95 heads south from US 93
near Henderson through far eastern California. A three-quarters beltway has been
built, consisting of Interstate 215 on the south & Clark County 215 on the
west & north. Other radial routes include Blue Diamond Road (SR 160) to Pahrump
& Lake Mead Boulevard (SR 147) to Lake Mead. McCarran International Airport
(IATA: LAS, ICAO: KLAS, FAA LID: LAS) is the principal commercial airport serving
Las Vegas & Clark County, Nevada, United States. The airport is located five
miles (8 km) south of the central business district of Las Vegas, in the unincorporated
area of Paradise in Clark County. It covers an area of 2,800 acres (11 km2) &
has four runways. McCarran is owned by Clark County & operated by the Clark
County Department of Aviation (DOA). It serves as a focus city for Allegiant Air,
Southwest Airlines, & US Airways; McCarran is also the largest operation base
for both Allegiant & Southwest. It is named after the former Nevada Senator
Pat McCarran.
