Turkmenistan ( Turkmen : Türkmenistan ; also known as Turkmenia ) is a Turkic country in Central Asia. The name Turkmenistan is derived from Persian, meaning " land of the Turkmen ". The name of its capital, Ashgabat, loosely translates as "the city of love" or "the city that love built", derived in folk etymology from the Arabic ishq for "love" with the Persian suffix abad for "inhabited" or "built". Until 1991, it was a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic. It is bordered by Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the southwest, Uzbekistan to the northeast, Kazakhstan to the northwest, and the Caspian Sea to the west. There are hotels here stayed in by diplomats, people visiting from teh provinces, tourists, and passers by, and people going elsewhere, and cof course in the capital, serving special teas, and things and Turkmen foods in hotels. The Yomut carpet is a type of carpet traditionally handwoven by the Yomut, one of the major tribes of Turkmenistan. A Yomut design, along with designs of the four other major tribes, is featured on the coat of arms and the flag of Turkmenistan. Some may kneel, wearing Turkmen national dress and kneal on carpets drinking tea. Or wtach foreign TV, like CNN if thats allowed.

Several cities have existed on this site, which is significant for the interchange of culture and politics at a site of major strategic value. It is claimed that Merv was briefly the largest city in the world in the twelfth century . The site of ancient Merv has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. A Turkmen can be identified anywhere by the traditional "telpek" hats, which are large black sheepskin hats that resemble afros. The national dress: men wear high, shaggy sheepskin hats and red robes over white shirts. Women wear long sack-dresses over narrow trousers (the pants are trimmed with a band of embroidery at the ankle). Female headdresses usually consist of silver jewellery. Bracelets and brooches are set with semi-precious stones...The Turkmen shore along the Caspian Sea is 1,768 kilometres (1,099 mi) long. The Caspian Sea is entirely landlocked, with no access to the ocean. The major cities include Ashkhabad, Türkmenbas,y (formerly Krasnovodsk) and Das,oguz.

Flights are available from Ashgabat to Armenia, China, France, Germany, India, Iran, Moldova, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Uzbekistan. Some fly there for many reasons, and some from Russia to , maybe to go to otyher neighbouring lands too. Turkmenistan Airlines is the flag carrier airline of the former soviet republic of Turkmenistan. The airline connects Ashgabat to destinations in Russia, Europe and Asia. All its international flights are operated by western-trained pilots using two-class configuration Boeing aircraft. Ashgabat Airport (IATA: ASB, ICAO: UTAA), also known as Saparmurat Turkmenbashy International Airport, is the only international airport in Turkmenistan. It is located approximately 10 km (6 mi) northwest of the capital Ashgabat (Ashkhabad). The airport, with its air traffic control tower and a 12,000-foot (3,700 m)-long precision-approach runway (12L-30R), opened in 1994 and was named after the country's first president, Saparmyrat Niyazov. The facility consists of a single arrivals/departures hall and is the only airport in Turkmenistan with direct international flights.
