Venus Williams was born the daughter of Richard Williams, and Oracene Williams.
She is one of five daughters, and one of the famous Williams Sisters, who dominated tennis for a a few years.
Their father was the biggest push towards them playing tennis, as he always wanted to raise kids who could be good at tennis, as he was so impressed by earnings of tennis, compared to his own salary. As Venus and Serena had the most aptitude for the game, he chose them as who he would train.
They had great strengh, and were very good at the game.
By the age of 10, Venus was already winning tournaments. Just like her younger sister would do.
Some say that the family stayed on Compton California, to tougn them up, as it is a hard area of LA.
She was brought up playing on run down public courts in LA's Compton.
Where she hit loads of balls for hours for much of her early life..
At the age of eight she did a good mile on the track, 5.29 but she kept on at tennis.
In 1991 they moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where they were co trained by somebody who helped train Jennifer Caprtiati.
But their father then took over, and started to withdraw them from the Junior Tennis Circuit, so they could do theri studies.
From 1994, 14 year olds were barred from being WTA tennis Pros.
But Venus turned pro before this, and was able to play in some games.
She even performed well versus Sanchez-Vicario, the then No 2 in the Planet.
She carried on doing High School work, and being outside the stage lights of tennis.
But she then appeared in a French Open in 1997, then reached the US OPEN final in her first entrance, the first unseeded player to reach the final.
Where she played fellow young star, Martina Hingis.
She then went on to win more and more championships on the tour.
She started to be recognised, as she was tall for the game then, and as she was a rare black women in the game.
She got allot of publicity as she was so fast and strong for the game, and people said she could become very successful.
In 2000 she and her also now famous sister, won the Gold at the Sydney Olympics, and she won Gold, in the Singles event.
A year after winning in 1999 the French Open Doubles.
But her first Open Championship was the Wimbledon Championship of 2000. When she defeated Lindsay Davenport, 6-4, 7-6
Then the US Open againast the same opponent 6-4, 7-5
Then Wimbledon again,
But her sister, who had won a the US Open, the year before Venus won Wimbledon, started winning more Opens, and other players emerged or re-emerged to stop the possibility of Venus dominating on her own.
Infact in 2001 she beat her sister Serena to win Wimbledon, but saw from 2002-2003 Serena win 5 Open Titles, with Venus runner up in all 5.
Venus saw some injury periods, but other players emerged also strong and fast, in the new game.
But in 2005, Venus Williams, won her next championship, defeating Davenport again to win Wimbledon, and her 5th Open.
She has won 5 other Women's Doubles titles with her sister, and 2 mixed doubles.
She has contracts with big sportswear companies, adding to the millions of dollars she has earned.
They were the first sisters to win a Doubles Grand Slam in the 20th Century and the first in the 21st Century.
Their elder sister was killed in California in 2003, which saw their form dip.
She did not play in the US Open in 2006, as of a wrist injury.
But she is still able to perform well, when need be. She is ranked 47 at the moment of this site's writing in November 2006, despite her injuries, but has been ranked NO1 for instance in 2002.
