The Versailles Treaty was not a bad thing.
People condemn it too much.
Some say it was bad as it split Germany,
And took loads of cash off it,
Well splitting up Germany was ok.
They had no right what so ever, to won Poland, and to oppress it, when most Poles wanted independence.
Added to this Alsace and Lorraine people wanted to join France as of WW1. And Eupen and Malmedy wanted to join Belgium, Parts of Denmark, wanted to join Denmark and did so.
What else occurred effecting Germany, Well Austria did not join Germany, well that was life. Versailles also allowed Czech and Slovaks independence. A good thing they wanted.
Some may say it was unfair some Germans in Danzig were not in Germany when they wanted to be so, But Poland need a route out of it, for trade, so that was good. After all no German rightists moaned when Sorbs were not allowed the independence, or mass autonomy they wanted.
It was totally fair to split Germany.
Yes Sudetenland was German majority, but the fact is that in terms of history it was never outside Bohemia, for Centuries. So to have taken it off, Bohemia, would just be picking and choosing, Why should Germany have been rewarded for WW2, by being given land that it never had before.
Anyhow lots of lands lost lands and did not moan all that much,. Britain lost the Republic of Ireland, a good thing for Ireland to be allowed it's own independence.
Added to this, the Kaiser's plan was to turn the whole of Europe, into undemocratically, Kaiser controlled areas.
His plan as stated in papers, from the German Imperial papers,
Were to annex small parts of Belgium, that were not German, to Germany,
Plus small parts of France. Such as Briey.
With Luxembourg annexed to Germany.
With Poland, as a colony.
Plus the annexation of more of Central Africa.
In the real world, Central Africa saw a decrease in colonial exploitation, and the millions of deaths of pre WW1, after WW1. In A German victory, the racist royal regime, created for inequality, would have done the same.
About the Army stuff, well that was hardly that much unless there was a war,
And about the money, well Germany planned to take reparations from France even though it caused the war, and took reparations off France for the Franco Prussian war of the 1870s. Bad yes, but hey thats life.
So Versailles made mistakes but it was not that bad.
Germany was not split up into what it was as recently as 1870, and the only thing that happened that was against German wishes was no union with Austria,. But Austria was not united to Germany before WW1, and that never saw a war. And today most Austrians do not want to join Germany.
And of the reparations, they were allowed to end under French plans, on plans before the Nazis came to power..
So that is that, Versailles were not that bad.
Germany lost nothing but a few foreign territories,
And that is that, and had to pay reparations, which it planned to make France pay even though it started the war,
And planned to make the world it's colony to do with as it wishes, and make Ottoman's a puppet race, Poland A COLONY, AND Russia a land which would be fought again, in a few decades to finish it off for good. According to most theories. So it were not that bad,
Lets see what could have happened,
The de industrialisation of Germany,
And the splitting up,
And terrible massacres
And permanent colonial occupation, ending a locally elected regime, by a dictator puppet,
So blah blah and there was more stuff too, thats enough though.
